Annual Dinner and Silent Auction
Our keynote speaker was Jon W. Davidson of Lambda Legal, the oldest and largest national legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people with HIV. Jon is legal director at Lambda Legal and has special insight in the national GLBT rights movement from his extensive and varied work coordinating and implementing legal strategies for across the country.
We also honored past OGALLA chair and local equal rights champion, Beth A. Allen, of Allen2 Law LLC, for her tireless pro bono work for the LGBT community.
Silent Auction Donors
The following businesses and individuals contributed to the silent auction, which this year raised a record amount of money to help The Bill and Ann Shepherd Legal Scholarship Fund:
- Bonneville Hot Springs Resort & Spa, located in the Columbia River Gorge, donated a one night stay in a hot tub room and a mineral bath spa treatment.
- Columbia Sportswear donated a gift basket.
- Cornelius Veterinary Clinic of Cornelius, Oregon, donated a gift basket.
- DeLightful DeLovely DeLicious, a Portland caterer, donated dinner for six catered in your home. Highest bidder will choose from one of four menus: Taste of Spain, Night on the French Riviera, Tour of Italy or Around the World in Four Courses.
- Donna Dunn's Painting and Housecleaning Services donated a 4 hour deep house cleaning.
- Eyes! on Broadway, Dr. Tom Barreto, donated $250 gift certificate toward a complete examination and glasses or contact lenses.
- Garden Fever, a Portland nursery focused on sustainable gardening, donated a $25 gift certificate.
- Grammy and Nonna's Toys in Portland donated a stuffed labrador puppy.
- The Historic Anchor Inn, a small inn located in Lincoln City's historic Taft district, donated a two night stay.
- Hotel Modera, a boutique hotel in downtown Portland, donated a one night stay.
- Hotel Monaco, a Luxury Hotel in downtown Portland, donated a one night stay.
- Thomas Lauderdale donated two copies each of Sympathique and Hang On Little Tomato, Pink Martini's first two cds. Susie Shepherd donated two copies of Hey Eugene! to round out the complete collection of Pink Martini, each of which will be finished off with two tickets to A Class Act 2009, on Friday, April 24, headlining Thomas Lauderdale, back for his first appearance since launching the event in 1995.
- Stephen Manning, a Portland attorney and author, donated a copy of his new book: Broken Spanish Bones, A Travel Memoir, magnificently illustrated by his partner, James Wilson. A lovely bottle of wine donated by Portland attorney Andrea Snyder will accompany this package.
- Northwest Morgans, a small farm breeding and showing top-quality Morgan horses located at Patchwood Farms south of Hillsboro, donated a carousel horse figurine and a three, 45 minute lessons for an adult or child in the Western or English style.
- Out Dancing, a local dance school for the GLBT community and their friends, donated dancing lessons.
- Perkins Coie donated two passes to Mt. Hood Meadows along with clothing for your skiing adventure.
- Portland Gay Men's Chorus, donated four tickets to its holiday concert, "Heavenly Holidays," December 19 through 21.
- Mayor Tom Potter donated Lunch with the Mayor for two.
- Patricia Richards, an Oregon artist, donated a mixed media encaustic painting.
- Stoel Rives donated three fleece vests from Stormwatch.
- Surf Tides Inn, a Lincoln City Hotel, donated a one night stay in an oceanside room.
- Tom James, a custom clothier in Portland, donated two custom-made men's shirts/women's blouses valued at $300.
- Trebol Mexican Restaurant in Portland donated a gift certificate.
- F.G. "Jamie" Troy, a Portland attorney, donated a limited edition print from Quintana Gallery with framing donated by Susie Shepherd.
- Your Host Inn Cuernavaca, a bed and breakfast of Cuernavaca, Mexico, donated a two night stay.
